About the Fort Atkinson Area
Fort Atkinson is situated within the "Four Lakes Area" of Jefferson County, and has a population of over 16,000. It is located 35 miles from Madison, the state capital and home to the University of Wisconsin, a convenient two hours from downtown Chicago, and an hour from Milwaukee and the Lake Michigan shoreline. Fort HealthCare Details
Fort HealthCare is comprised of Fort Memorial Hospital, Fort Medical Group, FortCare Provider Network and Fort Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Fort Memorial Hospital is a 110-bed, not-for-profit, independent, community owned hospital that recently opened a brand new, $33 million expansion. This expansion brought new med/surg/pediatrics wing, OB/GYN unit, emergency department and radiology department. The radiology department includes a new 16-slice GE CAT scan and one of only a few 3.0 tesla MRIs in the state of Wisconsin. Our OR has six surgical suites and is staffed by what our surgeons feel is an excellent OR staff and anesthesia department. The nursing staff consists of RNs and surgical techs. We have eight hardwire ICU beds and 12 intermediate care beds with telemetry. Our ED is staffed 24 hours by board-certified, emergency medicine trained physicians. Some services Fort Hospital offers are fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, stress testing, cardiac rehab Phase II, echocardiography, occupational medicine, endoscopy and a full rehab department.
In 2005 there were 3,414 hospital admissions, and 20,483 visits to ER and Urgent Care. Deliveries totaled 513. The medical staff of 55 group, affiliated and independent physicians represents most specialties and sub-specialties. Fort Medical Group, a subsidiary of Fort HealthCare provides physician clinic management services, owns and manages numerous clinics and provides physician billing services to a number of area practices.
The Fort HealthCare service area includes Jefferson County, and parts of Dane and Walworth counties. Communities include Cambridge, Fort Atkinson, Johnson Creek, Jefferson, Whitewater, Lake Mills and Palmyra with a combined population of more than 60,000 people. Fort HealthCare is also a joint venture partner with the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Medical Foundation and another nearby community hospital in a cancer center opened 2005 in Johnson Creek in the northern area of our service area. Through this joint venture, we are able to offer the highest quality cancer treatment with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
