How Often Do Your Children Need Checkups?

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that parents bring newborns to see a pediatrician within a few days of birth. Then, schedule routine office visits at:
  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months
After your child’s second birthday, well-child visits can be spread out to once a year. Schedule a routine checkup for your growing child at ages 3, 4, 5 and 6. Then, you can visit every other year, seeing the doctor at ages 8 and 10. After that, the AAP suggests annual visits from ages 11 through 21.
