"Bike for Mike" - October 20, 2012Wednesday, September 26, 2012
Fort HealthCare, in partnership with Tomorrow’s Hope and 2 Rivers Bicycle & Outdoor, are hosting a family-friendly bike ride and fun run/walk, “Bike with Mike.” The event is in honor of Mike Wallace, Fort HealthCare president & CEO who was recently informed his T-cell lymphoma has returned, but is not widespread.
Bike for Mike will take place on Saturday, October 20 at Jones Park in Fort Atkinson. Proceeds will be given to Tomorrow’s Hope, whose mission is to foster health-related research and education, and support activities that have a direct impact on individuals in the area touched by Alzheimer's, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, seizure disorder and other life-limiting illnesses. Registration for Bike for Mike will begin at 8:00 a.m.
This is not a timed race event. Cyclists may choose from 50, 30, or 15 mile marked routes. The long-distance rides, 50 and 30 miles, will depart at 9:00 a.m. and 15 mile riders leave at 9:15 a.m. 2 Rivers Bicycle & Outdoor will offer bike checks to cyclists prior to departure. Bike routes, developed by 2 Rivers Bicycle & Outdoor, will be posted on FortHealthCare.com/Bike as they are available.
Runners and walkers may select a distance of their choice, but routes will not be marked. Departure will follow the final wave of cyclists. Strollers are welcome.
All advanced registrants will receive a long sleeved t-shirt the morning of the event; sizes will be available first come, first served. Cost is $25 in advanced and $30 the day of the rally. Free will donations will be accepted for children 12 and under.
Wallace’s physicians expect a full recovery thanks in large part to his age and overall good health. “Having your support during my last treatment phase was very important to me. I truly believe the success of that treatment was due, in part, to your support,” remarked Wallace, in reference to supportive members of the community.
