Bike for Mike raises nearly $6,500 in honor of Fort HealthCare CEO and support of Tomorrow's Hope

Monday, November 19, 2012

On October 20, Fort HealthCare, in partnership with Tomorrow’s Hope and 2 Rivers Bicycle & Outdoor, hosted the family-friendly bike ride and fun run/walk, “Bike with Mike” for over 120 participants. Cyclists chose from 50, 30, or 15 mile marked routes and walkers and runners of all ages followed the path for a distance of their choosing.

“Bike for Mike” was held in honor of Mike Wallace, who is once again battling T-cell lymphoma. Wallace’s physicians expect a full recovery thanks in large part to his age and overall good health. “Having your support during my last treatment phase was very important to me. I truly believe the success of that treatment was due, in part, to your support,” remarked Wallace, in reference to supportive members of the community.

As a result of the event, $6,471.87 was given to Tomorrow’s Hope, whose mission is to foster health-related research and education, and support activities that have a direct impact on individuals in the area touched by Alzheimer's disease, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, seizure disorder and other life-limiting illnesses.

This event was made possible through donations from Fort HealthCare, 2 Rivers Bicycle and Outdoor, Abendroth Water, Vos Sentry Foods, Beauty and the Bean, Jefferson County Emergency Communications, Fort Atkinson High School Swim Team and Coaches, Fort Atkinson Parks and Recreation Department and the Fort Atkinson Police Department.

Pictured (L to R) are Lisa Jensen, RN and infection control specialist, Mike Wallace, CEO, Barb Endl, Tomorrow’s Hope executive director and Diana Hoffman, RN and school nurse. Wallace and Endl are showing off their balance on a tandem bike.

The shirts were those made specifically for the Bike for Mike ride, and the poster is filled with personal messages written to Mike Wallace and his family as they all journey through the cancer treatment process together. Jensen and Hoffman were the creators of the event that honored Fort HealthCare’s president and CEO, Mike Wallace.
