Center of Excellence award for Fort HealthCare Wound & Edema Center, Johnson CreekWednesday, March 13, 2013
For the third consecutive year, the Fort HealthCare Wound & Edema Center has been recognized as a Center of Distinction by Healogics, a national leader in wound care. For the first-time ever, the clinic was also granted the Robert Warriner III, MD Center of Excellence Award, making it one of only two in Wisconsin to receive this honor.
Benchmarks to achieve Center of Excellence status include meeting the following criteria for more than two consecutive years: greater than 92 percent patient satisfaction, healing rates over 91 percent, and number of days to heal less than 31.
The Wound & Edema Center has achieved success in treating and curing chronic or non-healing wounds, with hyperbaric and other proven medical techniques not available in many general practitioners’ offices, for hundreds of patients since opening in September 2008. The clinic is one of over 500 Healogic-affiliated clinics in the United States, but only a handful have received a Center of Distinction award in the first year of operation.
“Our goal is to heal wounds, not just treat them, and to improve the quality of life for our patients. We truly are a ‘healing center,’ not just a wound care center,” said Robert Goldman, MD. He added, “Once the wound is healed, our patients stay healed, reducing the need for further treatment.”
When wounds resist conventional treatment, a specialized approach is required. The Wound & Edema Center generally sees wound patients immediately, working with referring physicians to determine the most effective course of treatment. The outpatient comprehensive service offers advanced healing therapies often unavailable in primary care offices. These services use an interdisciplinary approach to treatment involving a variety of therapies and techniques, including debridement, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, dressing selection, special shoes and patient education.
For individuals with chronic, non-healing wounds, more information is available online at FortHealthCare.com/Wound. Patients can self-refer to the Wound & Edema Center, but are encouraged to discuss this option with their physician. To learn more, please call the clinic at (920) 699-4245.
