Fort Memorial Hospital Foundation Announces Nursing Scholarship Awards

Thanks to a generous donation from Arthur and Nancy Nesbitt to the Nursing Education Fund at Fort Memorial Hospital Foundation, five Fort HealthCare nurses have been awarded $2,000 scholarships to help them complete their Bachelors or Masters degrees in nursing.

Scholarship recipients are:

Sarah Bina – Fort HealthCare Learning Center
Carly Dassow – Fort Memorial Hospital Inpatient Services
Dianna Swingen – UW Cancer Center – Johnson Creek
Joanne Voelz – Fort HealthCare Center for Joint Replacement
Jacqueline Wolff-Ellifson – Fort HealthCare Obstetrics

The Nesbitt’s donation is motivated by the care they receive from Fort HealthCare’s nurses. “We are thankful for the compassionate and professional nurses who have helped us when we needed care. We hope others will join us to support the continuing education of excellent nurses we have at Fort HealthCare.”

The Nursing Education Fund was established by the Fort HealthCare Nursing Clinical Practice Council in response to the National Institute of Medicine’s goal for 80% of nurses to achieve Bachelor’s degrees by 2020. The purpose of this goal is to help nurses with Associates Degrees to prepare for the demands of a rapidly changing health care delivery system in our nation.

The Nesbitt’s were also instrumental in establishing the area’s only Simulation Lab at Fort HealthCare. Clinical teams use the Simulation Lab to practice individual skills and scenarios on high-tech mannequins with the goal of improving the patient’s care experience and health outcomes.
