AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Recognition Course

ACLS is desinged for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies.  This incluedes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics, as well as others who need an ACLS course completion card for job or other requirements.

AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED

This is an ideal opportunity to learn infant (0-12 months old), child (1-8 years old) and adult (8-plus years) CPR and how to use automated external defibrillation. The class is for anyone who wants to learn CPR skills for all age victims and for responders to cardiac emergencies in the workplace or community (such as fitness staff, day care providers, police). An American Heart Association card is issued upon successful completion of the course and is valid for two years. Registration includes student manual.

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. The course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR for adult, child, and infant, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.  The Recognition class is for those who have never taken the BLS for Healthcare Provider course or those who have allowed their certification to lapse. A renewal course is required every two years to remain current.  Certifications are good to the end of the month in which they expire.  

The Recognition Course is a pre-requisite course for the new EMT Basic or for those who have allowed their BLS certification to expire. A student manual is included in the registration fee.

Camp 911

Open to children in grades 4 to 6, Camp 911 is a one-day program focusing on safety, prevention techniques and health and wellness.

 Camp 911 partners with community agencies and Fort HealthCare staff to provide a fun, hands-on learning environment that gives children the knowledge, skills and confidence to protect themselves, react safely in emergency situations and increase awareness of health and wellness.

Camp 911 is limited to 70 participants. Campers must be entering fourth-sixth grade in the 2014-2015 school year. Registrations are based on a first-come, first-served basis. Beverages, lunch and snacks will be provided. Fee is $20 per camper. In case of rain, activities will be moved indoors.

Childbirth Preparation Classes

Classes cover the labor process and delivery, c-sections, relaxation techniques, options for pain management during labor, as well as new-baby care basics. In addition, a lactation consultant will provide an overview of breastfeeding and lactation services, and a certified car seat technician will provide car seat basics.

Mothers should attend classes in mid-to-late pregnancy.

Critical Care Classes

These classes are inteded for new critical care (such as ICU, ED, CCU) nurses or experienced nurses in the community hospital setting. The classes provide an in-depth study of commonly seen critical care issues, arranged by body system.  Lecture, simulation, role playing, open discussion, and case studies are used to increase critical thinking when caring for potentially unstable patients.

Each body system class is offered twice per year.  You can enroll by class or you may enroll for all courses at once. To sign up for individual classes please sign up in that section. Having Healthy Babies

This new, innovative program for pregnant mothers and fathers-to-be provides a great learning opportunity to address questions and concerns you may have during your pregnancy. This class will discuss nutrition and exercise, caregiver selection, safe pregnancy medications, CPR, breastfeeding, shaken baby syndrome, safe sleeping arrangements for your newborn ... and more! Open to pregnant women (and partners) 16-24 weeks along.

Healthy-Steps

Healthy-Steps, Moving You to Better Health with the Lebed Method, is a therapeutic exercise and movement program with wonderful music designed to help you thrive!  Offering wellness programs for cancer survivors, regardless of health, age or ability level.  The Healthy-Steps program improves overall wellness, range-of-motion, balance, strength and endurance, as well as emotional well-being and self-image. 

Through funding from Tomorrow's Hope, Fort HealthCare is able to reduce the rate for this class to $20/person

Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS)

Updated to reflect the 2010 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC, PEARS® helps healthcare providers develop the knowledge and skills needed for emergency evaluation and treatment of seriously ill infants and children.

PEARS teaches providers how to recognize respiratory distress, shock and cardiac arrest, and provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider. The goal of PEARS is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Red Cross Babysitting

This one-day program emphasizes safety, accident prevention and basic first aid. Participants, who must be age 11 or older, will learn to handle typical problems that arise while babysitting, how to make creative snacks and ideas for spending time with children. Each child receives a Red Cross Babysitting Book, DVD and certification card. Participants should bring a sack lunch.
