In October, we celebrated both Farm to School Month and the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch (GLGAC). In all, six different school districts participated, as did the local Boys & Girls Club, Jefferson County Master Gardner Volunteers, Fort HealthCare staff, and many other community organizations and groups joined in the fun. To participate, groups needed to submit a photo of themselves taking a bite of an apple to symbolize good health from nutritious, local food. Our communities’ efforts contributed to Wisconsin’s numbers against other states in the Great Lakes region. Farm to School Month and the GLGAC are nationally-recognized activities.
