The Information Security and Privacy Committee was formed approximately one year ago in an effort to keep Fort HealthCare safe from malware, phishing attempts and other malicious attacks. Scammers are sneaky, so we will be focusing our efforts on education over the next few months.  Be on the lookout for additional educational opportunities.

Here is an example:

Let’s say you’re sitting at your computer looking for some information relevant to your job. You do a quick Google search and you find the information (you thought) you were looking for…

You click on the link, download the files and you get this…

computer-warning

What do you do next?

  1. Nothing, it’s probably ok you leave for the day.
  2. Call the number, they can probably help.
  3. Shutdown the PC and dial the helpdesk at extension 5132 to report malware on your PC, immediately!

If you answered C, you are absolutely correct!

Shutting down your PC and contacting the helpdesk needs to be done immediately if you suspect your PC could be infected. Shutting it down prevents the malware from spreading and contacting the helpdesk triggers the next step in the investigation.
