Fort HealthCare Jefferson physician Linda Welniak, MD, is celebrating the beginning of her third year at the Jefferson clinic providing family medicine care to area residents. The Fort HealthCare Jefferson clinic is located at 840 West Racine Street in Jefferson. She and nurse practitioner Noreen Lyons care for patients of all ages.

Rebecca Barrett and Jackie Partipilo, both occupational therapists at the Fort HealthCare Therapy & Sport Center in Whitewater, have earned the distinguished Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) designation after completing all required examinations and clinical studies. The certification offers assurance to the public that the therapist treating them has achieved the highest recognition of competency in the profession.

Fort HealthCare recently challenged local residents and workers to increase their current activity level and improve their health by participating in the Rock the Walk 2013 Challenge. The 6-week challenge was open to employees of Fort HealthCare, Ball Corporation, Digi-Star, Fort Community Credit Union, Jones Dairy Farm, Nasco, Spacesaver and Standard Process. Residents were also invited to join participating community agencies including: Cambridge Activities Program (CAP), Fort Healthy (Fort Atkinson), JUMP (Jefferson), CHIC (Johnson Creek), Rock Lake Activity Center (Lake Mills) and Working for Whitewater’s Wellness (W3).

Fort HealthCare and the Fort Memorial Hospital Foundation recently announced the appointment of Dwight Heaney as the Foundation’s executive director. In this role, Heaney will provide leadership to raise philanthropic funds in support of Fort HealthCare’s mission to improve the health and well-being of our community.

Recently, members of the Jefferson County Cancer coalition presented a donation in the amount of $2,000 to Fort HealthCare. The funds were designated for the Fort HealthCare Mammogram Voucher program, a service that offers free or reduced cost mammograms to women who may not be able to afford them.

Fort Memorial Hospital Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from students pursuing health careers during the 2014-2015 academic school year. Scholarships valued at $500 to $5,000 each are available for students at the undergrad and graduate levels. Applications must be submitted online through the Fort Scholarships website, operated by the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation, by February 15.

After more than 25 years of service to area residents, Fort HealthCare will be closing its home health program effective January 31, 2014. Administrative staff from Fort HealthCare and Marquardt Village in Watertown have been working to assure a smooth transition for those adult and pediatric clients, their families, physicians and caregivers who agree to allow Marquardt Home Health to assume their continuing care. The staff of Fort HealthCare Home Health will have the opportunity to interview for positions at both Fort HealthCare and Marquardt Home Health.
