Affordable Care Act seminar December 10 at Fort Memorial Hospital

Monday, December 2, 2013

A free discussion regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) will be held on Tuesday, December 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the Fort Memorial Hospital auditorium. The presentation will be helpful to those individuals interested in learning about the health insurance benefits provided by the individual plans offered in the legislation’s Health Insurance Marketplace. The hospital is located at 611 Sherman Avenue, East in Fort Atkinson. Attendees are encouraged to access the auditorium by using the Armenia Street main entrance.

Local experts, representatives from area insurance companies and from Jefferson County Human Services will be on hand to answer questions. Assistance will also be provided for those who are unfamiliar with insurance terminology and options for coverage.

Despite the initial problems with the federal government’s health reform website, www.HealthCare.gov, the website continues to improve and more and more individuals across the entire country are now able to sign up for new health insurance options.

Dozens of preventive services are now covered fully by insurance plans, requiring no office visit co-pay. Every health insurance plan in the Health Insurance Marketplace will offer basic health benefits, including doctor visits, preventive care, hospitalization and Medications.

The new Health Insurance Marketplace offers different types of health plans to meet a variety of budgets and coverage needs for persons seeking health insurance without the benefit of an employer sponsored plan. This is especially important to persons and families affected by changes in the 2014 State of Wisconsin BadgerCare Plus eligibility allowances. Enrollees who no longer qualify for this program are encouraged to apply for private health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

A variety of local resources exist to assist new applicants and others to better understand the health insurance options available through the Health Insurance Marketplace where Certified Application Counselors (CACs) have been trained to offer enrollment assistance.
