Being well is made easier when you are surrounded by those who share your goals and can help motivate you to make good choices. With this in mind, Fort HealthCare is encouraging businesses and other organizations in the area to promote wellness in the workplace.

The “Commitment to Corporate Wellness” award was created as part of Fort HealthCare’s mission to improve the health and well-being of our community. A main component of that goal is keeping people in the workforce healthy and productive. This award recognizes that significant steps have been taken by local employers to create a healthy workplace, there is support from the highest level within the organization and numerous policies and programs exist to enhance the well-being of employees.

“Through employee wellness, we can have a better, more engaged, more present workforce,” remarked Mike Wallace, Fort HealthCare president & CEO. “Aztalan Engineering, RateWatch, and The Fireside are shining stars in our service area,” he adds.

To that end, Aztalan Engineering offers a ‘Live Fit’ program for employees to earn entries into drawings for prizes like iPads and TVs. They have begun providing healthy snack options in vending machines, implemented group walks during the work day and daily stretching among other wellness initiatives.

RateWatch holds a Biggest Loser-style contest for employees to reduce their weight, as well as provides on-site flu shots and biometric screenings.

The Fireside has a wide variety of opportunities for staff members, including: smoking cessation classes, fitness center reimbursements, bike-to-work days, a family 5K run/walk, free pedometers to track activity, and participation in competitions like the Fort HealthCare Slimdown Challenge.

Healthy employees have more energy, greater levels of camaraderie, increased productivity, reduced levels of injury, greater motivation to perform and lower health care costs.
