Blood drive saves 183 local lives

Thursday, June 30, 2011

Fort HealthCare held another successful blood drive, hosted by the Blood Center of Wisconsin, on Monday. There were 61 donations, enough to save up to 183 lives in the community. Each donated unit can save up to 3 lives because the red cells, platelets and plasma are used for special patient need and care situations.

The next Fort HealthCare blood drive is scheduled for October 24, 2011. Donors can give whole blood donations every 56 days. To donate you must be in good health on the day of donation, at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds. For more eligibility information, visit www.BCW.edu.

All blood used at Fort HealthCare is supplied by the Blood Center of Wisconsin, which is why donations are so important. Donations made at Blood Center of Wisconsin blood drives can save a family member, neighbor or one’s own life.
