Faith Nurse Educational Opportunity

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

One of the primary goals of the Fort HealthCare Faith Nurse Program is to provide educational opportunities and resources for local nurses to receive additional training to tailor their services for a faith community. Marquette University College of Nursing, in collaboration with Columbia St. Mary’s, is pleased to announce the next Faith Community Nursing Basic Preparation Institute.

The course utilizes the newly revised standardized curriculum of the International Parish Nurse Resource Center and will be held June 25-27 and Aug 20-22, 2010. Participants must attend both weekends for successful course completion. Course begins at noon on each Friday and ends at 5pm on each Sunday. The course will be held at Villa St. Joseph Retreat Center in Delafield, Wisconsin. The cost is $795 and includes all lodging, meals, and course materials.

The purpose of the course is to provide registered nurses with the knowledge and skill to engage in a faith community nursing ministry. The target audience is registered nurses or student nurses who wish to engage in the ministry of faith community nursing or those who wish to enhance their nursing practice with an emphasis on whole person care.

For questions or more information, contact Patrice Olin, RN, BSN, MS, Faith Community Nurse Educator for Marquette University and Columbia St. Mary’s at (414) 550-8519 or via email at  Patrice.olin@marquette.edu. Registration forms can also be requested from Cathy Graffinius at (414) 288-3802.

A faith nurse program can improve awareness of available services, increase utilization of existing healthcare delivery systems, and promote health and healing by empowering individuals to incorporate key elements from their belief systems into their healthcare plan. Faith nurse programs can also educate congregations on healthcare issues and offer opportunities for outreach ministry into surrounding communities.

The Fort HealthCare Faith Nurse program aims to assist congregations in improving the health and spiritual well-being of its members by providing a central resource for information, education, networking and support for serving area churches throughout Cambridge, Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Johnson Creek, Lake Mills, Whitewater, Palmyra, Milton, Edgerton and beyond.
