Fort HealthCare challenges local workers to "Slimdown"

Slimdown Challenge LogoFort HealthCare is challenging local workers to slim down and improve their health by participating in the Slimdown Challenge. The 12-week challenge is open to employees of Fort HealthCare, Nasco, Spacesaver, Digi-Star, Cygnus Business Media and Rock Lake Activity Center. RLAC members are also welcome to participate.

Eligible participants will be forming teams of four-to-six players, attending official weigh-ins and logging weights throughout the competition. The team with the highest percentage of weight-loss at the end of 12 weeks will win a $1000 Visa gift card for each team member. Each week, three randomly selected participants will each win a $50 gift card as added motivation as we help improve the health and well-being of our community, as emphasized in the Fort HealthCare mission statement.

“We’ve worked with Cerner, our electronic medical records partners, to design a challenge that will have a lasting impact on our community, one that we hope extends well beyond 12 weeks of active competition,” said Kathy Roach, Fort HealthCare’s director of community health and wellness. “We’re hoping the challenge provides the tools needed to help accelerate a culture of health in Jefferson County and surrounding areas.”

The competition officially starts January 16 and anyone can visit to track the progress of the participants.

All competition participants will receive a free online personal health record through Cerner Health, which they can use to securely monitor their progress during the competition. Cerner Health can be used after the competition to maintain personal health and fitness records free of charge.

The Slimdown Challenge follows the very successful Rock the Walk Challenge, a step challenge that was open to select local employers. More than 600 people participated, averaging nearly 40,000 steps over six weeks.

It is expected that Fort HealthCare will launch communitywide challenges in 2012 to further influence the health and well-being of the community.
