Fort HealthCare Ortho Programs to Move in May

As of May 26 all Fort Atkinson location Orthopaedic Associates and Therapy & Sport Center appointments will take place at the new facility on Fort Atkinson’s northwest side. Previously home to Piggly Wiggly, 1504 Madison Avenue will now house a state-of-the-art rehab, sports medicine and orthopedic center complete with pediatric areas and a sports gym for rehabilitating athletes. Community members are invited to attend an open house at the new Fort Atkinson location on June 25 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and/or June 26 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Providers from all rehabilitation departments and Fort HealthCare Orthopaedic Associates will be on-hand to present live, interactive demos and displays, answer questions and provide a look at the new facility. The new facility will better serve those living in Cambridge, Jefferson, Whitewater, Fort Atkinson and other neighboring communities. In addition, the move will allow for continued growth of Fort HealthCare’s orthopedic surgery, occupational and physical therapy services. Also, this new location is nearby Fort Atkinson High School, allowing greater access for student athletes and rehab patients regularly seen by Fort HealthCare athletic trainers.

In addition to greater convenience, accessibility is better addressed in the new location. The new facility provides improved physical space to meet the needs of the community as well with additional square footage and wider hallways to accommodate individuals in wheelchairs,
more private patient areas for confidential communication and on-site laboratory services for the convenience of surgical patients. Industrial rehabilitation and work hardening services will have improved space and recovering athletes can make use of the sports gym. The gym will house nets for golf and baseball training and a full-sized basketball lane allowing for the redevelopment of athletic skills in a relaxed atmosphere.

J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc., of Janesville began construction of the new facility in December 2009 and have paid special attention to going “Green” through the use of specific construction methods that reduce costs and waste.

The relocation of the two programs to shared space is critically important to the enhancement of patient services. Sarah Sisbach, vice president of physician services, states, “We have always understood the importance of keeping rehabilitation and physical therapy services easily accessible for our surgical patients. The entire orthopedic surgery program is designed with the patient’s needs in mind from pre-surgery education, to specialized surgical care, through physical and occupational therapy and then to complete recovery. A location that houses both offices for the surgeons and therapy staff facilitates real-time communication regarding patients receiving treatment.”

Kim McCrea, DPT, director of rehab services adds, “One of the greatest advantages of the new space is that instead of fitting our patients into our current facility, we will be able to build a safe and helpful environment around the needs of our patients, which aligns with our goal for improving patient-centered care.” Working closely with physicians, the certified team of therapists at the Fort HealthCare Therapy & Sport Center develop customized treatment plans to improve an individual’s ability to carry out activities of daily living through physical, occupational, speech and language therapy.
