Mini Grant donation to Fort HealthCare pediatrics unit

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

On Friday, May 13, the Fort HealthCare Pediatrics unit was the recipients of multitudes of toys, games, puzzles and books to entertain children who are hospitalized along with their parents. The donation was made possible through the mini grant program offered by the Vietnam Veterans of Fort Atkinson through the School District of Fort Atkinson. Alexis Dudzek, Almira Ajdini and Krista Borchardt, members of Lori Held’s third grade class at Rockwell Elementary, decided to fundraise for their donation.

During the sale, the girls also collected donations of puzzles and games to add to their donation. When asked why the girls chose the hospital’s children’s unit, their responses nearly all revolved around having been a patient or a visitor and, “know[ing] what it’s like to be in the hospital with nothing to do.” Pam Kuehl, manager of the pediatric unit said, “This is a fantastic project that will greatly benefit our patients and their family members. We’re thrilled beyond compare that these girls have chosen our department to receive this wonderful donation.”
