Fourth graders Drew McDonough and Kaylee Stortz were awarded a Fort Atkinson School District Mini-Grant to raise funds to buy books for the Fort HealthCare Obstetrics department to give to new families. McDonough and Stortz made mini-pillows and baked goods and sold them at the Barrie Elementary School Family Picnic on May 14, 2019. The duo raised $100 and were able to purchase 36 Dr. Seuss board books for new babies and their families. The Mini-Grant Program is available to all FASD 3rd-12th graders, although not all students are guaranteed an award. Students apply for a mini-grant to use as seed money to complete a community benefit project with the help of an adult mentor.
