Fort HealthCare is hosting a new, innovative pregnancy education class open to mothers and fathers-to-be in their 16 – 24th week of pregnancy. The Having Healthy Babies class is an opportunity for participants to learn more about pregnancy-related topics including; nutrition and exercise, medication and pain relief options during pregnancy, breastfeeding, infant CPR, choosing a caregiver, safe sleeping arrangements, Shaken Baby Syndrome and more. Members of the Fort HealthCare obstetric staff will be on-hand to answer pregnancy related questions and concerns and participants will also be given a hospital tour.
“Expecting parents have many different worries and concerns when it comes to having a child,” remarked Jan Simdon, R.N., Clinical Coordinator at the Great Expectations Birthing Center. “The second trimester is a great time to address these concerns. All expecting couples are encouraged to attend this class to learn more about a variety of topics related to pregnancy and newborn care.”
Having Healthy Babies will be held monthly, with the first class held on Wednesday, April 4 at 6 p.m. in the Fort Memorial Hospital Auditorium. In addition to the Having Healthy Babies class, Fort HealthCare also offers a number of educational classes related to childbirth and beyond. The Childbirth Preparation Class covers the labor and delivery process as well as new-baby basics. Brother, Sister: Sibling-to-Be helps prepare young children for a new arrival in their family. Happiest Baby on the Block, pioneered by Harvey Karp, M.D. in his best-selling book, provides new parents with step-by-step help on how to soothe their newborns. Introducing Solid Foods teaches parents how and when to make the transition from breast milk or formula to solid foods. Baby Talk is open to parents interested in learning sign language to help facilitate communication with their infants.
