Fort HealthCare recently provided the Dane County Honor Guard with a donation allowing for the purchase of a member's uniform. The guard provides guidance in funeral planning, arranging for honors like casket guard vigil at visitations, coordinating displays of honor including a final salute and walk of honor, and sounding the final pager tone to signify the completion of duty.

Due to the recent heat wave, many donors have not been able to attend their local blood drives. The loss of these donors has a significant impact on maintaining the local blood supply and BloodCenter is experiencing a serious need for O Negative Blood.

On June 8th, Fort HealthCare teamed up with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department to offer jail inmates a chance to participate in a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training course. CPR is a combination of chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth assisted breathing used to restore oxygen in a person who has stopped breathing. Corinna Bindrim, the American Heart Association Coordinator at Fort HealthCare, worked with Sheriff's Deputy Tina Blake and Sheriff Paul Milbrath in providing this first time opportunity to the inmates.

Fort HealthCare has issued a call for artist drawings related to health and wellness in our community. Ten winning entries will be selected by a panel of judges and transferred, to stairwells in Fort Memorial Hospital, by artist Jeff Haberman of Jefferson. The stairwell project was initiated by the Fort HealthCare Employee Wellness Committee as a way to encourage staff and visitors to take the stairs by creating a more inviting and energizing place to walk.

Each year, Fort HealthCare authorizes a comprehensive survey to assess the general public’s individual healthcare status and health-related behaviors. Survey results guide the organization in identifying the need for new and improved services, addressing individual health conditions more effectively and in assessing the overall health of the communities it serves.

Fort HealthCare is pleased to announce that the organization has once again been named a 'Top 100 Workplace' by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The honor was announced in a special 'Top 100 Workplaces' section in the Sunday, May 20 edition of the newspaper. The section profiles high-performing companies, including Fort HealthCare, which also made the list in 2010 and 2011.

Fort HealthCare has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the second consecutive time. The accreditation is a result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a noninvasive medical test that uses magnetic fields to produce images of internal body parts, helping physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. During this week, Fort HealthCare nurses will celebrate by holding a Nurses Day Community Wellness Walk on Wednesday, May 9. All are welcome to participate in celebrating health and wellness with a Wellness Walk led by Fort HealthCare's patient care team.
