The Fort HealthCare Surgical Associates and Business Services Office invite the community to attend their open house celebration on Saturday, April 2 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The open house is an opportunity for individuals and families to meet Fort HealthCare's surgeons and staff, and tour the new building. The new building, which opened on March 1, is located at 210 and 212 Milwaukee Avenue West, adjacent to Lorman Bicentennial Park in Fort Atkinson.

Colon cancer is the third most common cancer and one of the most preventable. Kathryn Banbury of Lake Mills knows this first-hand. Because of a brush with colon cancer, she strongly encourages people to schedule a first-time colonoscopy. “A colonoscopy is not painful, as one might expect, and the procedure lasts 30 minutes or less in many cases. Scheduling a colonoscopy is so much easier than dealing with cancer.”

The board of directors of Fort HealthCare announced recently that an agreement has been made with Alden at Fort HealthCare regarding the Subacute Care Center located at Fort Memorial Hospital.

On Diabetes Alert Day, March 22, anyone can come to Fort Memorial Hospital to have a free blood glucose screening and have their risk for diabetes assessed by certified diabetes educators from Fort HealthCare's ADA-recognized program for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Screenings will be held on the ground floor in the diabetic education room from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in classrooms B and C. No registration is required for this free event.

Applications for scholarship awards are now available to qualified area students who are pursuing a career in a healthcare field. Applications for five scholarship awards in the amount of $2000 each are currently available. Completed applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2011 to be considered.

To celebrate National Athletic Training Month, the Fort HealthCare Therapy & Sport Center is offering a running/walking clinic on Saturday, March 26 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the clinic, 1504 Madison Avenue in Fort Atkinson. Individuals interested in training for a 5K, half-marathon or marathon this year can learn valuable tips for success.
