Back-To-School Physicals for Children and Teens

Spring and summertime is when you should be scheduling your child\'s back-to-school and sports physicals. The State Department of Public Instruction sets the wellness exam requirements for school age children, starting at the 4K level. At this type of Well Child visit, your child\'s physician will record your child\'s height, weight, blood pressure, and conduct a physical exam and vision test. If your child is due for any vaccinations, Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) sports physicals, or other age-appropriate developmental screening questionnaires, those tests will take place as well.

Cambridge Community Foundation Awards Grant to Fort HealthCare

In April, the Cambridge Community Foundation awarded a $2,400 grant to the Fort HealthCare Cambridge Clinic to upgrade the equipment used for taking care of broken bones. The new equipment makes the delivery of care more comfortable for patients. The equipment that the clinic uses to cut casts off has been replaced with a newer model, which features a vacuum attachment, so that cast dust is contained when the equipment is used, and not permitted to float around in the air.

First in the region to share newborn babies via digital media

Driving east on I-94 has gotten a bit more baby-filled in recent weeks. Fort HealthCare began placing newborn baby photos on the digital billboard, along with name and birth date. The billboards are updated each week featuring babies born during the previous week, making Fort HealthCare the only healthcare system to share baby photos to a mass audience so rapidly.

National Nurses Week Wellness Walk, Friday, May 6

Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6 and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. During this week, Fort HealthCare nurses will celebrate by holding a Nurses Day Community Wellness Walk on Friday, May 6. All are welcome to participate in celebrating health and wellness with a Two-Mile Wellness Walk with Fort HealthCare's patient care team. The walk will be held at the path near Groeler Road and Hwy 26 in Fort Atkinson.

Breastfeeding rates surpass national levels

Fort HealthCare's breastfeeding initiation rate averages 87 percent, compared to the national average of only 67 percent. In addition, the five-week post-delivery rate shows 82 percent of moms are still breastfeeding, while the national average drops to nearly 30 percent.

Digi-Star, a lean manufacturer of agricultural weighing equipment, is a Fort Atkinson-based company that has demonstrated its concern for the welfare of its employees. The employee wellness committee has improved employee wellness through numerous offerings including a Healthy Start weight loss competition with a group weigh-in on equipment they produced, a walking challenge with their European office involving a trek across the Atlantic, and a geo-caching scavenger hunt at the company's local headquarters.

Sullivan Elementary donates to Fort HealthCare Emergency Department

In March, the group collected stuffed animals to donate to area EMS squads and area emergency departments, including that at Fort Memorial Hospital. Approximately 500 stuffed animals were collected by 193 students to give away to help calm the fears of sick or injured children.

Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Training for CDL Drivers and Supervisors

Fort HealthCare Business Health at Fort Memorial Hospital will present a drug and alcohol training seminar that is mandatory for supervisors and owner/operators of commercial motor vehicles. The seminar, which will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fort Memorial Hospital, is a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Department of Transportation compliance seminar offered to the local business community.
