Rock the Walk 2012 encourages local residents and workers to "get their steps"
Wednesday, September 19, 2012
Individuals looking for a way to begin an exercise program or change their current program are invited to join the Fort HealthCare Rock the Walk 2012 Step Challenge. Rock the Walk 2012 is a six-week challenge with weekly prizes, designed to increase the current activity level of participants. Each week, step goals and prize values increase to keep players motivated and engaged. For those who prefer activities other than walking, conversion charts will help calculate the equivalent number of steps for whatever form of exercise completed.
“Rock the Walk 2012 is an opportunity for local workers and residents to get in some physical activity while competing for prizes and bragging rights,” said Andrea Billinghurst, Fort HealthCare community programming coordinator. “Spouses, co-workers, friends and neighbors can take part in some friendly competition, while improving their health and well-being, as stated in the Fort HealthCare mission statement.”
Players are required to join one of the many teams organized by either their participating employer or a local community agency, to compete in the challenge and compare progress across the teams.
While the activity is organized by Fort HealthCare, other organizations are participating. To date, the following businesses have confirmed participation in the challenge: Nasco, Spacesaver, Aztalan Engineering, Cygnus Business Media, Jones Dairy Farm, Ball Corporation, Whitewater Unified School District, Fort Atkinson School District. Community agencies participating are: Heart of the City (Fort Atkinson), Cambridge Activities Program (CAP), Rock Lake Activity Center (Lake Mills) and Working for Whitewater’s Wellness (W3).
Players may only join one team. If joining a team organized by community agency, players do not need to be a member of the organization. Participants must be age 18 or older and are advised to consult with their physician before beginning a fitness program.
Weekly prizes include gift cards for BicycleWise or 2 Rivers Bicycle and Outdoor, iTunes, Best Buy and Nike, as well as Fort HealthCare fitness classes, personal training sessions, gym memberships, Weight Watchers memberships, concert tickets, or a Bose sound system. The grand prize is a Vision Fitness TF20 Folding Treadmill, valued at $1899.
Participants are asked to register online at FortHealthCare.com/RocktheWalk2012 and record daily step totals. Weekly step totals will be calculated each Monday at noon and participants who achieve the specified levels will be entered into a drawing to win prizes supplied by businesses within the Fort HealthCare service area. Participants will have to meet the step goal every week to be eligible for the Grand Prize.
There is no cost to participate. To register, visit FortHealthCare.com/RocktheWalk2012 by September 30. Beginning October 1, players can begin entering steps. Registration instructions are available by clicking on the “Locker.” Questions can be directed to Andrea Billinghurst at (920) 568-5244 or andrea.billinghurst@forthc.com. Rock the Walk 2012 is sponsored by Fort HealthCare, Aztalan Engineering, Jones Dairy Farm and Nasco.
