Rock the Walk 2013 encourages everyone to step up their fitness

Monday, October 21, 2013

Individuals looking to begin an exercise program or change their current program are invited to join the Fort HealthCare Rock the Walk 2013 Step Challenge. Rock the Walk 2013 is a six-week challenge with weekly prizes designed to increase everyone’s current level of activity. Each week, players will be motivated to achieve their step goals by being eligible for prizes that become more valuable with each week. For those who prefer activities other than walking, conversion charts will help calculate the equivalent number of steps for whatever form of exercise is completed.

“Rock the Walk 2013 is an opportunity for local residents and teams of employees to get in some physical activity while competing for prizes and bragging rights,” said Bridget Monahan, Fort HealthCare Community Health and Wellness Manager. “Spouses, co-workers, friends and neighbors can take part in some friendly competition, while improving their health and well-being.”

While the activity is organized by Fort HealthCare, other organizations are participating. Players must join one of the many teams organized by either their participating employer or a local community agency, to compete in the challenge and compare progress across the teams.
Community agencies participating are: Cambridge Activities Program (CAP), Fort Healthy (Fort Atkinson), JUMP (Jefferson), CHIC (Johnson Creek), Rock Lake Activity Center (Lake Mills) and Working for Whitewater’s Wellness (W3). To date, the following businesses have confirmed participation in the challenge: Ball Corporation, Digi-Star, Fort Community Credit Union, Jones Dairy Farm, Nasco, Spacesaver and Standard Process.

Players may only join one team. Individuals not associated with a participating employer can join the team organized by a community agency. The agencies do not require membership to participate in the challenge. Participants must be age 18 or older and are advised to consult with their physician before beginning a fitness program.

Weekly prizes include gift cards to Nasco, Fort Atkinson Chamber Bucks, a FitBit Flex and an iPod Nano. The grand prize is a fitness hybrid bike or an indoor training kit, heart rate monitor and spinning class from 2 Rivers Bicycle and Outdoor, valued at $600.

Participants must register online at FortHealthCare.com/RocktheWalk and record daily step totals. Weekly step totals will be calculated each Monday at noon and participants who achieve the specified levels will be entered into a drawing to win prizes supplied by the Rock the Walk sponsors including Fort HealthCare, Ball Corporation, Nasco and Spacesaver. Participants will have to meet the challenges pre-determined step goal each week to be eligible for the Grand Prize.

There is no cost to participate. To register, visit FortHealthCare.com/RocktheWalk by November 3. Beginning November 4, players can begin entering steps. Registration instructions are available by clicking on the “Locker.” Questions can be directed to Andrea Billinghurst at (920) 568-5244 or andrea.billinghurst@forthc.com.
