Safe Swallowing Practices Talk on September 28th at Fort HealthCare

HAVE YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE EVER STRUGGLED WITH SWALLOWING ISSUES OR EXPERIENCED EPISODES OF CHOKING?

DO YOU CARE FOR A PERSON WHO MAY BE AT RISK WITH THEIR EATING ABILITIES?

An interactive presentation on safe swallowing practices is being offered, at no cost, to participants on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016.  The presentation will take place at Fort HealthCare from 9:30- 11:30 AM in classroom A.  This event is hosted by the Jefferson County Care Transition Coalition.  It is open to the general public, specifically those in caregiver roles.  Participants will learn about swallowing difficulties, the different specialized diets, common red flags to look for and what to do in an emergency choking situation.  There will be a variety of experts available, including a speech therapist, a dietician, registered nurses and various other healthcare professionals.

This session will also provide you with recipes specific for various diet restrictions and tips/tricks for making mealtime more engaging for yourself or your loved one.

For those caregivers hoping to attend, respite care for your loved one will also be available at the hospital during this presentation.
