Fort HealthCare is once again offering Stepping On, a fall prevention program for seniors. Those 65 and older, who have had a fall, are fearful of falling or are living in their own home or apartment are encouraged to attend the workshop led by Lee Clay, RN and Faith Nurse coordinator. Participants must be able to ambulate independently or with minimal assistance, such as a cane. No walkers, please.

The goal of this workshop is to help participants identify why they fall and different ways of prevention including strength and balance exercises, home safety suggestions and a medication review. “For older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury and hospital admissions,” stated Clay. “With more than one-third of seniors falling each year, our goal is to help build confidence and teach seniors to be safe within their homes and out in the community.”

The seven-week session will be held September 20-November 1 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 1660 Endl Blvd. in Fort Atkinson. Cost is $20 and includes all sessions, a home visit and a three-month class reunion. Space is limited and registrations are based on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions or to register by phone, call (920) 568-5244. Visit FortHealthCare.com/Classes to register online.
