Therapy & Sport Center and Orthopaedic Associates Prepare for Move

Fort HealthCare Orthopaedic Associates and Fort HealthCare Therapy & Sport Center are relocating later this year to the Lexington Center’s former Piggly Wiggly building on Fort Atkinson’s Madison Avenue. J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc., of Janesville began construction of the new facility in December 2009 with an estimated completion date of May 2010. The new location is going “green” by using green construction methods that reduce costs and waste.
The Lexington Center facility will be more accessible and better serve those living in Cambridge, Jefferson, Whitewater, Fort Atkinson, and other neighboring communities, and allow for continued growth of Fort HealthCare’s orthopedic surgery, occupational, and physical therapy services. The new location is closer to Fort Atkinson High School, which will allow greater access for student athletes and rehab patients seen by Fort HealthCare athletic trainers on a regular basis.
The new facility provides a better physical space to meet the needs of the community as well with additional square footage and wider hallways to accommodate individuals in wheelchairs or those using crutches, more private patient areas for confidential communication, and on-site laboratory services for the convenience of surgical patients. Industrial rehabilitation and work hardening services will have improved space and recovering athletes can make use of a gymnasium which will house nets for golf and baseball training and a full-sized basketball lane allowing for the redevelopment of athletic skills in a relaxed atmosphere.
The re-location of the two programs to shared space is critically important to the anticipated enhancement of patient services. Sarah Sisbach, vice president of physician services, states, “We have always understood the importance of keeping rehabilitation and physical therapy services easily accessible for our surgical patients. The entire orthopedic surgery program is designed with the patient’s needs in mind from pre-surgery education, to specialized surgical care, through physical and occupational therapy, and then to complete recovery. A location that houses both offices for the surgeons and therapy staff facilitates real-time communication regarding patients receiving treatment.”
Kim McCrea, DPT, director of rehab services adds, “One of the greatest advantages of the new space is that instead of fitting our patients into our current facility, we will be able to build a safe and helpful environment around the needs of our patients, which aligns itself with our goal for improving patient-centered care.” Working closely with physicians, the certified team of therapists at the Fort HealthCare Therapy & Sport Center develop customized treatment plans to improve an individual’s ability to carry out activities of daily living through physical, occupational, speech and language therapy.
