William Hofmann, MD: Otolaryngologist

William Hofmann MD is an otolaryngologist dedicated to providing the best solution for individuals that may need medical or surgical intervention for head and neck conditions. “My practice revolves around patient-centered care. I was taught that the most effective weapon in treating a problem is a careful patient history. Every person has a unique story, so it is important to listen carefully. Not everyone responds to treatment in the same way, so my goal is to work closely with each individual to develop a care plan that works for them.”

“I love otolaryngology because I can help patients from birth all through life. I especially enjoy taking care of the kids, because common procedures can have such an enormous impact on their lives. Hearing a parent say a child has improved is always a highlight of the day. Sinus, neck and ear surgery are also of great interest to me.”

Dr. Hofmann’s Interests:

“My family is the center of my life outside of medicine. My wife and I have a son who keeps us very busy. I have been active in community service since I was in high school, and am currently a member of Rotary International. Personally, I enjoy cooking, photography and travel.”

Allergy

Allergy is a physiological reaction caused when the immune system mistakenly identifies a normally harmless substance as damaging to the body. Normally, the human body defends itself against harmful substances, such as viruses or bacteria, but sometimes the defenses aggressively attack usually innocuous substances, such as dust, mold, or pollen.

Although hundreds of ordinary substances could trigger allergic reactions, the most common triggers-called allergens-include pollens, molds, household dust, dust mites and their waste, animal protein (dander, urine, oil from skin).

In a person with allergies, the immune system is oversensitive. When it recognizes an allergen, it releases chemicals such as histamines that fight off the allergen. Allergic rhinitis, hay fever, coughing and sneezing can all cause serious problems in the ears, mouth, nose and throat. Doctors William Hofmann and Michael Anderson can care for allergy sufferers of all ages by providing allergy evaluations, testing and immunotherapy (both injection therapy and sublingual therapy).
