If lung problems are keeping you from doing the things that you want to and enjoy doing, then you may benefit from Fort HealthCare’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

Shortness of breath, coughing spells, and fatigue can keep you from participating in activities with family and friends.

While you can’t eliminate your lung condition, you can make daily living easier by improving your physical condition. Individuals with any of the following conditions are encouraged to participate:

How It Works

An important part of pulmonary rehabilitation is exercise. A certified exercise physiologist will design an individualized exercise program to meet your activity goals and increase endurance. Your heart rate, oxygen saturation levels, blood pressure, and exertion levels will be monitored throughout the program to ensure the safe progression of activity. In addition, you will learn how to apply self-monitoring concepts in your job and recreational activities.

The program involves progressive individualized exercise supported by education and a support network of a certified clinical exercise physiologist and registered nurse as well as other members of your healthcare team. One-on-one and group educational sessions will provide information on the nature and course of your lung disease.

Weekly classes include activity guidelines and breathing techniques to help you cope with symptoms like:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Stress management
  • Smoking cessation
  • Proper use of medication

During your initial medical evaluation we will review your medical history and lifestyle habits. Together, we will set goals and provide support and encouragement. We will meet with you one-on-one to address any areas that need personal attention. Periodic evaluations, reviews, and recommendations will be made by your personal healthcare provider.

Cardiopulmonary Wellness Program patients simply need a provider’s approval and to remain current on their account to maintain an exercise membership.
