“I have learned the power of positivity, so if I am able to inspire someone else on their weight loss journey, I feel very good about that.”
~ Tanya B.
“I had participated in biometric screenings provided through the wellness program at my workplace (Fort HealthCare), and the numbers were very telling. I discussed everything with my doctor, and I realized it was time to do something about my weight. I had read somewhere that diabetes runs in families, and my mother has it. So here I was, almost 40 years old, overweight, and TERRIFIED of needles – I did NOT want to be dependent upon medication for the rest of my life. I had yo-yo’d with my weight my entire life – since I was a teenager. I feel like I’ve tried every diet. But nothing worked, because I realize now I was not getting at the underlying issues I was having – what was making me eat. And I wasn’t really committing to the lifestyle changes that were required for them to work.
I started out small, experimenting with apps like MyFitnessPal, and talking to friends of mind that had been through a bariatric surgery program, where they learned a lot about positive lifestyle changes to make. I started eating prepared meals that allowed me to count calories. Then as I got more used to it, I started preparing my own meals and paying attention to the calorie count. I lost weight right away doing this. Then I started exploring sites like Pinterest and found some exercises that I felt I could do and that would be fun to try. When I started committing to all these changes, I lost 84 pounds and got down to my goal weight. I feel great, and I am thankful for the support and encouragement that I’ve received.”
“I am one that always knew what I ‘should’ do, but also felt intimidated to get started,” says Amanda as she reflects on how she felt exactly one year ago. What you may not know about Amanda is that she was just shy of starring in the Biggest Loser, and after following directions by gaining 25 more pounds, she still did not make it on the show. Feeling defeated and depressed, Amanda “felt like she was wearing her disability on her sleeve” and was engulfed by her bad behaviors: fast food every morning before work, mindless eating while driving, guilt piling up after overeating, and thinking that none of it would ever change. She felt the need to rebuild her confidence. So, she set out to participate in the Slimdown Challenge…”
“I felt like I struggled with my weight my whole life. I’ve lost weight in the past, but always gained it back. I didn’t like how I looked. I didn’t like how I felt. My knees hurt. I didn’t want to go into my retirement years and not be healthy! I began on my own making small changes by controlling portion sizes, drinking more water, and not overindulging. I started seeing results and realized there was the possibility for me to really change my lifestyle and be healthier. I finally ended up experiencing long term success by setting – and keeping – small goals, practicing healthy habits, making healthy choices, and learning how to cope with temptation. And Weight Watchers at Work has been a big help to me! Everyone there is all in the same boat, and the accountability and support the group setting provides is really helpful. Since January 2015, I have lost 65 pounds, and I’m still going. I have also learned that what works for one person may not work for another, so tuning in to your body and being good to it is important for staying positive and committed in this process.”
“I was approaching 40 years old and 283 pounds. I was not happy. My health wasn’t good. I had type 2 diabetes and uncontrolled high blood pressure to where my doctor said I probably had only about 10 years before I’d experience a major heart attack or stroke. Then he told me about the Lap-Band System…”
Since the procedure, Michelle has her life back! She is confident in public and more importantly her diabetes is gone, and her blood pressure under is control.
“I’ve lost and gained virtually thousands of pounds in the past. The Lap-Band® has allowed me to finally lost a substantial amount of weight and keep it off. In the months following my surgery, I would wake up every morning feeling like I’d won the lottery, but the reality is even more incredible. I know that I will never weigh more than I do today. Now that is never a time when I tell myself I can’t do something because of my weight. That is an incredible feeling!”
