Pneumonia

If at high risk: persons ages 18 to 64 recieve 1-3 doses. Those age 65 and older recieve a single dose.

What is it?
An infection of the lungs that is usually caused by bacterial or viruses.  Globally, pneumonia causes more deaths than any other infectious disease. It can often be prevented an can usually be treated. Talk to your provider to see if you are at risk for this.

Why?
Pneumococcal Disease  An infection caused by a type of bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae. This disease spreads when people cough or sneeze.  Many people have the bacteria in their nose or throat at one time or antoher without being ill. Talk with your provider to which vaccine is best for you.
