Christopher Kurtz, MD presents What Everyone Should Know About Heart Health

Christopher Kurtz, M.D., a UW Health System Cardiologist, will speak on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Fort Memorial Hospital. His presentation, "What Everyone Should Know About Heart Health" will focus on coronary artery disease. Those in attendance will learn how it develops, risk factors, strategies for prevention and general considerations regarding treatment. Following Kurtz’s presentation, Amy Podmolik, registered dietician with Fort HealthCare’s Nutrition Services will present “Eating to Improve Your Lipids and Blood Pressure” and Karen Kopacek, Fort HealthCare pharmacist will present “Management of Drug Interactions.” The presentations will begin at 6 p.m. in the Fort Memorial Hospital Auditorium and is open to the public. No registration is required.

Kurtz, Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, received his medical degree from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN. He is the associate program director for the cardiovascular disease fellowship at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health and sees patients at the Fort HealthCare Specialty Clinic and the Cardiovascular Medicine Clinic in Beaver Dam. His special interests include valve disease and pulmonary hypertension.

In celebration of Heart Month, Fort HealthCare is also offering additional classes and programs that are open the community. Free blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings will be offered on Wednesday, February 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fort Memorial Hospital – Classroom A. These screenings will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration is required.

The Family and Friends CPR class will be held on Wednesday, February 22 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. This program offers individuals the opportunity to learn adult/child CPR and adult/child choking intervention.  Individuals can register at: FortHealthCare.com/Classes.

A blood drive is scheduled for Monday, February 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Fort Memorial Hospital and will help to help keep an abundant supply of blood locally. To register, call the Fort Memorial Hospital laboratory at (920) 568-5261 or online: BCW.edu/FortHealthCare.
