Fort HealthCare Jefferson Clinic Reconstruction Underway

Monday, March 12, 2012

This week’s anticipated demolition of the Fort HealthCare Jefferson building, 840 West Racine Street, is the next step in the construction of a replacement clinic designed to better serve the needs of area residents. The remodeled clinic will be a modern space capable of supporting up to three providers practicing at the same time and will house a procedure room, new imaging equipment, a small lab area and enhanced nursing and reception areas. Construction is slated to begin shortly and the completed building is expected to open again in July of this year.

Recently, services at the Fort HealthCare Jefferson building were relocated to 152 Garland Street, Jefferson while the former location was prepared for demolition and reconstruction. Dr. Linda Welniak and nurse practitioner Noreen Lyons have been providing care at the temporary location and will move to the West Racine Street location when the building re-opens. Dr. David Rutledge, formerly at this location, recently accepted the position of medical director at the Rock River Free Clinic, 1541 Annex Road, Jefferson. The Rock River Free Clinic is a partnership between the Rock River Free Clinic Board, Fort HealthCare and the Jefferson County Health Department.

Welniak earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. She has taught for more than 10 years at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and continues as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the department of Family and Community Medicine. She cares for patients of all ages – from infants to older adults – and is experienced in all facets of family medicine including health and wellness, diagnosis and treatment of various conditions, immediate care needs, health management, acute problems and chronic conditions.

Lyons is a family nurse practitioner skilled in treating both children and adults, with professional certifications as both a pediatric nurse practitioner and a family nurse practitioner. She received degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Marquette University. Her specialty is in promoting healthy lifestyles through patient education.
