Fort HealthCare Receives Green Award from City

Each year, the City of Fort Atkinson honors area businesses, organizations and individuals for environmental awareness as part of the Green Recognition Program. This year, Fort HealthCare, an integrated healthcare organization that includes Fort Memorial Hospital and Fort Medical Group, has been selected as the business award recipient. The purpose of the award is to showcase the environmental efforts of area businesses, community organizations and individual citizens. The award recognizes that a healthy economy and a healthy environment are mutually supportive.

To be considered for the award, businesses must participate in Green activities such as
preventing waste, recycling, using recycled products, energy conservation, hazardous material reduction and elimination, water conservation and more .

In choosing Fort HealthCare for this award, the City of Fort Atkinson recognized the positive environmental efforts being made by the company. This award recognizes that a healthy economy and a healthy environment are mutually supportive," said Paul Hable, director of lab and safety as he accepted the award. “We are pleased to be able to share our knowledge and efforts with the community and promote city-wide practices for environmental sensitivity. “

Fort HealthCare’s accomplishments regarding Green efforts include the creation of a Green Team and a funding of a part-time sustainability coordinator position. Additional actions include use of biodegradable utensils and to-go containers in the cafeteria, recycling bins in the inpatient obstetrics unit, sustainability study circles, tree-planting at Kids Konnection daycare and overall efforts to reduce energy usage.
