Tuesday, February 22, 2011

At the end of February, the offices of Fort HealthCare Surgical Associates and the Fort HealthCare Business Services will re-locate from their McMillen Street site to a new building on the corner of Fort Atkinson’s Robert Street and Milwaukee Street. The new location offers convenient access to general surgeons Bill Kontny, M.D.; Marc Erickson, M.D. and Jonathan McLaughlin, M.D., as well as all the services of the Fort HealthCare Business Office. Surgical Associates will see patients for the first time at the new site on Tuesday, March 1. Business Services will be open the day prior, on Monday, February 28.

Fort HealthCare's new surgical associates and business services building, under constructionBuilt by Stevens Construction Corporation of Madison, the 12,000 square foot facility has been under construction since October of last year. Surgical Associates will occupy 9,000 square feet and house four exam rooms, two procedure rooms, a nurse’s station, waiting and reception area and offices for the four general surgeons. The Business Services office will occupy the remainder of the space. A basement allows for storage of records and equipment.

A significant number of local building trade consultants, contractors and suppliers were involved in this project. “In these difficult times of a down economy, more than sixty workers were gainfully employed as they excavated the site, poured concrete, framed and plumbed the building, installed drywall, finished the interior and enclosed the exterior”, said Glen Hofer, Project Executive at Stevens Construction.

Many of the companies were local to the Jefferson County region. Architectural services were provided by The Architectural Firm of Jefferson, Craig Ellsworth, principal architect. Interior design work was provided by Peter Weston and Jana Healy of the Design Alliance, Fort Atkinson. The project’s civil engineering was performed by RSV Engineering in Jefferson; site surveying was completed by Janesville’s Combs & Associates. Excavation and site utilities were the responsibility of McKnight Excavating of Milton. Also based in Milton, McKnight Plumbing was engaged to plumb the building. Other area companies on the job were C & C Concrete Construction LLC, Janesville, Wolf Siding & Windows, Watertown and Jefferson Glass, Inc., Jefferson. At present, workers are putting the finishing touches on the interior and installing siding, soffit and fascia on the exterior.
