National Nurses Week Wellness Walk, Friday, May 6

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Each year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America’s millions of nurses work to save lives and improve the health of millions of individuals. This year, the American Nurses Association (ANA) has selected "Nurses Trusted to Care" as the 2011 theme.

During this week, Fort HealthCare nurses will celebrate by holding a Nurses Day Community Wellness Walk on Friday, May 6. All are welcome to participate in celebrating health and wellness with a Two-Mile Wellness Walk with Fort HealthCare’s patient care team. The walk will be held at the path near Groeler Road and Hwy 26 in Fort Atkinson. The starting point is at the parking lot behind SpaceSaver. Walk start times are 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., but there is no formal group start time, so walkers may walk at their leisure and pace. Light refreshments and conversation to follow. Event will be held, rain or shine; maps are available at Fort Memorial Hospital in the QIC department.

ANA, through its state and constituent member associations, advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting economic and general welfare, promoting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and lobbying Congress and the regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.

Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, who comprise the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. From bedside nursing in hospitals and long-term care facilities to the halls of research institutions, state legislatures, and Congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.
