Thursday, October 3, 2013

Fort HealthCare has organized a number of fitness events to occur in the remaining months of this year. Volunteers and participants for these family oriented activities are encouraged to visit the Fort HealthCare website pages created for both the Frosty Rock Challenge and the Spin to Win Poker Pedal. Proceeds for the Frosty Rock Challenge benefit Tomorrow’s Hope. The Spin to Win Poker Pedal is raising funds in support of the Rock River Free Clinic.

The inaugural Fort HealthCare Frosty Rock Challenge 5k &12k will be held on Saturday, November 16. Beginning at the Fort HealthCare Therapy & Sport Center in Fort Atkinson, participants will have a choice between a 5k road course run or walk and a 12k mixed course run. The 12k race commences at 9:00 AM and is followed by the start of the 5k at 9:15 AM. Registration begins at 7:30 AM.

On the 12k course, runners will amble through the oak savannah, past the marshes and wetlands, and over the prairie at Dorothy Carnes County Park. The 5k course takes in beautiful city and river views. Both courses start and end at Fort HealthCare’s Therapy & Sport Center, 1504 Madison Avenue, Fort Atkinson. Music will be provided by the DJs of Good Time Music. Chip timing is provided by It’s Race Time, Inc.

Early bird registration is available. Registrations by November 8 provide for a $5 discount. After that date, the fee for the 12k mixed course race is $40 and the fee for the 5k run/walk is $35.

On-line registration closes on Thursday, November 14. All participants pre-registered by October 15 will receive a race shirt.

The Frosty Rock Challenge is presented by Fort HealthCare Therapy & Sport Center, Fort HealthCare Orthopaedic Associates and Fort HealthCare Integrated Family Care. Gold level sponsors to date are Nasco, Fort Community Credit Union and RateWatch. Cygnus Business Media and Crimson Salon & Spa are Silver level sponsors. This is not a timed race event. Cyclists may choose from 15 or 40 mile marked routes. The long-distance ride, 40 miles, will depart at 9:00 a.m. and 15 mile riders leave at 9:15 a.m. 2 Rivers Bicycle & Outdoor will offer bike checks to cyclists prior to departure. Bike routes, developed by 2 Rivers Bicycle & Outdoor, will be posted on the website FortHealthCare.com/Bike as they are available. Water stations will be set-up along the routes and riders will be able to pick a different poker card at each one. Prizes will be awarded to the participants with the best poker hands at the completion of the ride. Cost is $30. All advanced registrants will receive a long sleeved t-shirt the morning of the event; sizes will be available first come, first served.
