The Fort Memorial Hospital’s Cardiac Evaluation department provides cardiac testing procedures requested by physicians.
Services available are:
Electrocardiograms (EKGs) Stress Tests
Duration of the test:
45 minutes to one hour for cardiac evaluation and then approximately 45 minutes for the Nuclear Medicine scan.
Cardiolite is used to evaluate the adequacy of blood supply to the heart muscle.
Persantine is given to expand (dilate) the coronary arteries in those individuals who are unable to tolerate vigorous exercise, and is used in combination with Cardiolite.
Dobutamine is used as a stressor in combination with Cardiolite. It is used in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
*Please remember not drink caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee, tea, soda or eat chocolate for 24 hours prior to testing. Persantine stress test cannot be done if these have been consumed in the 24 hours preceding the test.
Retrospective EKG Memory Loop Recorder captures data of any arrhythmias causing patient symptoms, is stored and later transmitted to a receiving center. It can be worn for one to six weeks as indicated when arrhythmias occur sporadically. This procedure takes approximately one hour to set up.
The Cardiac Evaluation department is located on the ground floor of Fort Memorial Hospital.
